I believe that each story is different and, therefore, may require a unique approach.
Each parent handles their child's Substance Use Disorder in their own way -- and in their own time.
Congratulations on reaching beyond yourself to ask for partnership, support, and the tools needed to survive and thrive while on this journey with your child, who is experiencing experimentation, use, or abuse of substances.
It is not easy to talk about the issues surrounding our childrens’ use, but you are not alone.
Sometimes, while we are in the midst of the chaos, it is difficult for us (the parents) to utilize the tools we have. Sometimes, we have to develop new tools and practice using them in order to get our life back. We do this so that our children can do the work they need to do in order to become healthy.
Hi, I'm Dina.
My son, Parker (my beautiful, middle child, now age 30), had used drugs for 9 years (3 of which were with IV Heroin), relapsed 3 times, and has now been in active recovery for 6 years. He is a warrior and I am his strongest advocate.
As a parent coach, I take my own experience as a parent of a child who struggles with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and become the resource and guide I wish I'd had on my journey with my son.
I want to empower you to be able to set healthy boundaries while loving your child. Yes, those ideas can co-exist. I believe that it is when parents are in crisis, that they especially need a coach. I want to be there for you when you need reassurance that you are doing the right thing - at that very moment. If we can help each other and share learned knowledge, we will all be better for it.
I can't wait to share with you -- and learn from you. Read more

Parents who may not wish to pursue the traditional route, which can include interventions, rock-bottom milestones, or tough-love engagement with their children

What you can expect
A Constructive Approach and a Dependable Partner
I embrace and teach the CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) method. This approach encourages healthy, constructive, positive changes for your entire family; it does not promote the intervention, rock-bottom strategies that are often found in substance use cessation support. It is especially useful when working with a family member who is not interested in making changes to their substance use.
I utilize the Invitation to Change (ITC) approach, which incorporates evidence-based research that supports inviting your child to take the journey through the six stages of change. Parents can serve as valuable resources in this process. The approach can make all the difference. Together, we'll explore effective ways to communicate the process with your children that can make them more receptive to the invitation to change.
I am a dependable partner for you, through the celebrations -- and the crises. When things get tough, I am on call for you and your family. You'll have my cell phone number, and if a crisis hits, I will be on the line with you, serving as your guide, and helping you to navigate these unknown waters. I limit my clients to no more than 5 at a time so that I can be there for you when you need me.
The Process
Contact me via my inquiry form, and we'll schedule a meeting to see if we're a fit.
Then, I'll invite you to complete my Parent Coaching Intake Form.
From there, I'll contact you to schedule our first 50-minute coaching session, which will take place over Zoom.
During that first meeting, we'll discuss your goals and a schedule of coaching sessions. (My clients are typically able to reach a place of empowerment within about 5-10 sessions.)
I'll ask you to submit your payment for the scheduled sessions and you'll receive my cell phone number and contact email address.
Finally, we'll begin our scheduled 50-minute coaching sessions and become partners on this journey.
My Commitments to You
I will
help to empower you through teaching the skills and tools it takes to get through this difficult and sometimes painful journey;
take a compassionate approach to your unique situation;
ensure complete confidentiality & privacy;
uphold a judgment-free zone;
be there when you need me; and
meet you and your child where you are, respect your level of tolerance, go at your pace, and navigate within your boundaries.
Fees
My coaching fee is $125 / hour, billed in advance of our scheduled sessions.
Only scheduled sessions are billed. In-crisis-coaching is part of the service I include in those fees.
Fees may be paid by check, Venmo, or Zelle. A payment link will be provided when coaching sessions are scheduled.
I take a compassionate approach -- making sure you can meet your child wherever they are -- so that you can be a collaborator and supporter to move forward in their stage of change.
Here for You
I am here to listen, share what I have learned along the way, and guide you through the journey. It is my goal as a parent coach to help you achieve health and strategic boundary setting all while you continuously let your child, who is suffering from SUD, know that you love them.
My hope is that, by working together and practicing the skills we talk about, you will be able to navigate this challenging journey, while feeling like you have ownership over your life; that, as we work toward your goals as a parent, you can feel joy and practice self-care throughout the process.
Let's navigate this challenging journey, together.
